Content Policy
Solisla is a community built on honest, firsthand renter experiences. This Content Policy explains what we expect from everyone who uses the platform, how we handle content that doesn't meet those expectations, and what happens when someone disagrees with a moderation decision.
This policy is written in plain language on purpose. If you want the legal version, see our Terms and Conditions.
Our Guiding Principle
Every piece of content on Solisla should help a future renter make a better decision. That's the standard we hold everything to — reviews, usernames, and interactions between users.
Reviews
What makes a good review
The best reviews on Solisla are specific, honest, and grounded in personal experience. They describe what it was actually like to live somewhere — the good and the bad. A helpful review might mention how quickly maintenance responded, whether the listing photos were accurate, what the neighborhood was really like, or how the move-out process went.
Negative reviews are welcome and protected. A critical review that reflects a genuine experience is exactly what Solisla exists for. We will never remove a review simply because it is negative.
What's required
- You must have personally rented or lived at the property you are reviewing
- Your review must reflect your own genuine experience, not someone else's
- You must select an accurate rental timeframe when submitting your review
- One review per property per tenancy — if you rented the same property at two different times, you may submit two separate reviews
What's not allowed in reviews
- False statements of fact. There is a difference between an opinion and a false factual claim. "The landlord was unresponsive" is an opinion based on your experience. "This building has 20 code violations on file" when it has none is a false factual claim. Opinions are protected. Knowingly false factual claims are not.
- Personal identifying information. Do not include full names, phone numbers, email addresses, home addresses, physical descriptions, or any other information that could be used to identify a specific individual — including landlords, property managers, or other tenants.
- Hate speech and discrimination. Content that attacks, demeans, or threatens any individual or group based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, age, or any other protected characteristic is prohibited.
- Threats, harassment, and personal attacks. Reviews should describe your rental experience, not attack individuals personally. Criticism of a landlord's professional conduct is acceptable. Personal insults, threats, or harassment are not.
- Content unrelated to the rental experience. Reviews should focus on what it was like to live at the property. Off-topic content, advertisements, political commentary unrelated to the rental, and spam are not permitted.
- Fabricated or incentivized reviews. Reviews written by someone who never rented the property, reviews written in exchange for compensation of any kind, and reviews intended to artificially manipulate a property's rating are all prohibited.
- Duplicate or coordinated reviews. Submitting the same review from multiple accounts, or coordinating with others to inflate or deflate a property's rating, is prohibited and may result in permanent account termination.
Usernames
Your username is the only identity other users see alongside your reviews. Choose something that represents you without revealing who you are.
Username rules
- Must be between 3 and 20 characters
- May contain letters, numbers, and underscores only
- Must not contain your real name, email address, phone number, or other personally identifiable information
- Must not impersonate another person, organization, landlord, property manager, or Solisla staff
- Must not contain profanity, slurs, vulgar language, or offensive terms of any kind
- Must not contain hate speech or discriminatory language
- Must not be intentionally misleading (e.g., "Solisla_Official," "Admin," "Verified_Staff")
We reserve the right to reject usernames during registration if they clearly violate these rules. Common profanity and offensive terms are filtered automatically during account creation.
What happens if your username violates these rules
If we determine that a username violates this policy, we will notify you by email and require you to choose a new username within 7 days. During this period your account remains active but your reviews will display a temporary placeholder until a compliant username is selected. If you do not update your username within 7 days, your account may be suspended until the username is changed.
Adding Properties
Registered users may add properties to Solisla that are not already in our database. When adding a property, you must provide an accurate, real address of a property that exists as a residential rental. Adding fictional addresses, commercial properties misrepresented as residential, or properties you own or manage for the purpose of soliciting reviews is not permitted.
Review Flagging
Who can flag
Any registered, logged-in user can flag a review they believe violates this Content Policy. You must be logged in to flag a review. Anonymous or logged-out users cannot flag reviews.
How to flag
Click "Flag review" on any review card. You will be asked to select a reason for your flag from the following options:
- Review appears to be for the wrong property
- Contains false factual claims (not just a negative opinion)
- Contains personal or identifying information
- Appears to be from someone who never rented here
- Contains hate speech or personal attacks
You may also provide a brief written explanation to give our team additional context.
What happens after you flag a review
- Your flag is submitted to our moderation team for review
- You will see a confirmation that your flag was received
- The flagged review remains fully visible and unchanged while under review — flagging does not hide, remove, or mark a review in any way visible to other users
- Our team reviews the flag against this Content Policy and makes one of three decisions: keep the review, remove the review, or dismiss the flag
What flagging is not for
Flagging is a tool for identifying content that violates this policy. It is not a tool for removing reviews you disagree with. The following are not valid reasons to flag a review:
- The review is negative
- The review is critical of a landlord or property manager
- You believe the rating is too low or too high
- You are the property owner and want the review removed
- You personally disagree with the reviewer's opinion or experience
Flags submitted for these reasons will be dismissed. Users who repeatedly submit bad-faith flags may have their flagging privileges restricted or their accounts suspended.
How We Make Moderation Decisions
When a review is flagged, our team evaluates it against this Content Policy using the following approach:
What we consider
- Does the review describe a firsthand rental experience?
- Does it contain any prohibited content as defined above?
- Is the flagged concern specific and supported, or vague and opinion-based?
- What is the reviewer's history on the platform (account age, number of reviews, verification status)?
- Does the flag appear to be in good faith, or does it appear to be an attempt to suppress a legitimate review?
What we do not consider
- Whether the review is positive or negative
- Whether the property owner or manager wants it removed
- The reviewer's star rating
- How many times a review has been flagged (volume of flags does not determine outcome — the content does)
Possible outcomes
Review is kept: The review does not violate this Content Policy. It remains on the Platform unchanged. The person who submitted the flag is notified that the review was found to comply with our policy.
Review is removed: The review violates this Content Policy. It is removed from the Platform. The reviewer is notified by email that their review was removed, with a reference to the specific policy violation, and information about how to appeal.
Flag is dismissed: The flag does not identify a genuine policy violation. It is closed with no action taken on the review. The person who submitted the flag is notified.
Appeals
If your review is removed, you have the right to appeal the decision.
How to appeal
Send an email to admin@solisla.co with the subject line "Review Appeal" and include:
- The property address the review was for
- Your username
- Why you believe the removal was incorrect
What happens during an appeal
We will re-review the original content and the moderation decision. Appeals are reviewed by a different member of our team than the person who made the original decision, whenever possible. We aim to respond to appeals within 14 days. The outcome of the appeal is final.
What an appeal cannot do
An appeal cannot overturn a removal for content that clearly violates this policy (e.g., hate speech, personal identifying information, threats). Appeals are intended for cases where the reviewer believes the policy was applied incorrectly to their specific content.
Verified Renter Badge
The Verified Renter badge indicates that a reviewer has submitted documentation suggesting they lived at the reviewed property. It does not mean Solisla endorses or guarantees the accuracy of the review's opinions or claims.
How verification works
After submitting a review, you may optionally upload a document showing your name at the property address — such as a lease, utility bill, or renter's insurance policy. Our team reviews the document to confirm the address matches the reviewed property. If confirmed, a Verified Renter badge appears on that specific review.
Important privacy details
- Verification documents are stored securely and are accessible only to authorized administrators
- All documents are permanently deleted immediately after a verification decision is made, whether approved or rejected
- We do not retain copies, screenshots, or any content from your documents after deletion
- The only information that persists is whether the review was verified and when the decision was made
If verification is rejected
You will receive an email explaining why and may upload a different document. You may attempt verification up to three times per review. A rejection does not affect your review — it remains on the Platform as an unverified review.
Helpfulness Voting
Registered users can mark reviews as "Helpful" to signal to other readers that a review was useful. Each user can vote once per review. Votes can be toggled on and off. Helpfulness votes are intended to surface the most useful reviews — they are not "agree" or "disagree" buttons.
Coordinated helpfulness voting (organizing groups to upvote or downvote specific reviews) is a violation of this policy and may result in account suspension.
Consequences of Policy Violations
Depending on the severity and frequency of violations, consequences may include:
- Review removal: The specific content that violates this policy is taken down
- Username reset: You are required to choose a new compliant username
- Flagging restriction: Your ability to flag reviews is limited or revoked
- Account suspension: Your account is temporarily disabled, with the option to be reinstated after a cooling-off period
- Permanent termination: Your account is permanently closed. This is reserved for severe or repeated violations, including coordinated manipulation, fabricating verification documents, or persistent harassment
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Content Policy as the platform evolves. If we make material changes, we will notify users by email or by posting a notice on the Platform. The latest version is always available on our website.
